Richard Durham and I had a few things in common: a love of radio, captivating storytelling, and fascinating characters – both real and fictional.
Durham and I also love jazz.
Several of Durham’s Destination Freedom radio dramas celebrated the lives of top flight musicians like Edward “Duke” Ellington, Lena Horne, and Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong. Click here to hear Durham’s dramatic tributes to these artists in his Echoes of Harlem, Negro Cinderella and The Trumpet Speaks episodes.
But if you want to hear contemporary masters of this art form, check out the White House’s International Jazz Day Global Concert held on April 30, 2016.
Enjoy!
